Sachin Pilot Reaches Delhi Day After Fast Against Gehlot Govt Demanding Action Over Graft

Congress leader and former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot reached Delhi on Wednesday a day after he sat on fast against his own party-led government demanding action over graft by the previous Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government in the state. It was being speculated that Pilot might meet Rajasthan Congress chief Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and other senior leaders, but a PTI report citing sources said no meeting was fixed.

On Tuesday, Pilot sat on a day-long fast at Jaipur’s Shaheed Smarak against the Gehlot government demanding action against allegations of corruption by the previous state government.

Speaking to reporters, Pilot said, “The allegations of corruption are not new, they are already in the public domain.” He said he “wrote twice” demanding action but there was no response. “So action should be taken so that people don't think that there is a difference between what we promise and what we do,” he said.

ALSO READ: PM Modi To Flag Off Rajasthan's First Vande Bharat Train Today, Will Connect Ajmer To Delhi

Defying the Congress central leadership's warning that the move would be considered "anti-party", Pilot went ahead with his fast from 11 am to 4 pm.

While leaving the venue after his fast, the former deputy chief minister said that he wrote two letters on this issue to Gehlot last year but received no reply.

"We had assured people that effective action will be taken against corruption by the former BJP government. I wanted the Congress government to take action but it has not happened in over four years," Pilot said.

ALSO READ: MSC Bank Scam Case: Company Linked To NCP’s Ajit Pawar Named In ED Chargesheet

He also told reporters that Rahul Gandhi, the Congress and other opposition parties have united over corruption and financial irregularities, and claimed that his fast will speed up this movement.

The rift between Gehlot and Pilot once again came to the fore with this fast ahead of the assembly elections in the state scheduled later this year. Pilot’s Sunday announcement to go on a fast against the Gehlot government came after the CM had denied having any differences with Pilot and saying that both the leaders will contest the polls together.
