J&K: Vehicles Stranded As Huge Chunk Of Road On Jammu-Srinagar Highway Caves In Due To Rain

<p><strong>New Delhi:</strong> Hundreds of vehicles were stranded till late Saturday night in Udhampur as the Jammu-Srinagar Highway remained closed after a massive chunk of road along the highway caved in due to heavy rain earlier in the day, news agency ANI reported. According to report, a part of the road connecting two tunnels on the national highway was washed away after landslides occurred in several areas of Ramban district following heavy rain.</p> <p>Several landslides struck the Jammu-Kashmir national highway, that is the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country. "People are advised not to travel on the highway till the restoration work is completed," news agency PTI quoted the official as saying.</p> <p>Meanwhile, several landslides occurred near Rata Chambh on Mughal Road, an alternative link connecting the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri with the Shopian district of south Kashmir. Train service between Banihal and Qazigund stations was also suspended due to heavy rains.</p> <h3>Weather Office Issues &lsquo;Red&rsquo; Alert For Seven Districts In Himachal</h3> <p>Landslides occurred at various places on four lanes and link roads following heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh&rsquo;s Bilaspur district on Saturday. An "orange" warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall was also issued for Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Lahaul and Spiti.</p> <p>Meanwhile, around 6,000 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were stranded at Ramban due to the suspension of the yatra following inclement weather, ANI reported.</p>
