Create Posts Of Chief Secy, DGP For Manipur's Hill Districts: 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs Write To PM Modi

<p>Guwahati: A total of 10 MLAs of Manipur, belonging to the Kuki-Zo communities, have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the creation of the posts of chief secretary and director general of police for the state&rsquo;s five hill districts &mdash; Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Chandel, Tengnoupal, and Pherzawl. The legislators also demanded a sanction of Rs 500 crores from the Prime Minister&rsquo;s relief fund for proper rehabilitation of the Kuki-Zomi people who have been affected by the recent ethnic clashes in the state.</p> <p>The Kuki-Zomi MLAs including Haokholet Kipgen, Letpao Haokip, LM Khaute, Nemcha Kipgen, Ngursanglur Sanate, Paolienlal Haokip, Chinlunthang, Letzamang Haokip, Kimneo Haokip Hangshing, and Vungzagin Valte, placed a nine-point charter of demands in their memorandum to the Prime Minister.</p> <p><strong>ALSO READ | <a title="" href="https://ift.tt/xw9GOcL" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-toggle="tooltip" data-html="true" data-original-title="Story ID: 1623518" aria-describedby="tooltip854698">29 Women Part Of CBI Team Deputed To Probe Manipur Violence Cases</a></strong></p> <p>The MLAs in their memorandum stated that people belonging to the Kuki-Zomi communities have been adversely affected by the ethnic clashes that broke out in the state on May 3 this year.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">According to the Kuki-Zomi legislators, the government employees, businessmen, and daily wage labourers besides others belonging to these communities have come under attack and their residential houses, official quarters and vehicles have been torched in the state capital Imphal.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">The student community and MLAs have also been not spared, they said.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">The MLA claimed that the capital Imphal is no longer safe for the community, no one feels it safe to return.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">The government employees are unable to attend office over fear of coming under attack, they mentioned in the letter.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">Indian Administrative Service, Manipur Civil Service, Indian Police Service and Manipur Police Service officers from the community have been "unable to function and discharge their duties from Imphal as it has become a valley of death", they added.</p> <p style="font-weight: 400;">&ldquo;In view of the aforesaid, it is therefore prayed that in order to solve the problems faced by the government employees belonging to the Kuki-Zo tribals and for efficient administration of the districts inhabited by us, the post of chief secretary or its equivalent post and the post of DGP or equivalent post need to be immediately created. Besides, other key senior level posts in the civil and police department should also be created in public interest,&rdquo; the MLAs stated in their memorandum.</p> <p>Earlier,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Kuki-Zomi MLAs had announced that they will not attend the special state assembly session. They also demanded a separate administration for the tribal people of the state.</p> <p>Ethnic clashes in the state have so far claimed the lives of at least 160 people while several hundred others have been left injured.&nbsp;Moreover, the violence has displaced thousands of people forcing them to take shelter in relief centres.</p> <p>Clashes between&nbsp;Meitei and the&nbsp;Kuki-Zomi communities&nbsp;broke out after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status on May 3.&nbsp;</p> <p>However, the state is limping back to normalcy with no major or sporadic incidents being reported from across the state in the last few days.</p> <p><strong>Subscribe And Follow ABP Live On Telegram:</strong><a href="https://ift.tt/YQWXzfq"> <strong>https://ift.tt/FLWP5uz>
