Opposition 'INDIA' Leaders, MPs To Meet President Murmu At 11.30 Am Today To Discuss Manipur Issue

<p><strong>New Delhi:</strong> The leaders of the opposition alliance, named Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), along with the 21 MPs' delegation that visited violence-hit Manipur will meet President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday at 11.30 am, ANI reported citing Congress sources.</p> <p>During the meeting, the leaders will brief her about the situation in Manipur where ethnic violence has claimed scores of lives and the steps to be taken to bring normalcy in the north-eastern state.</p> <p>Apart from Manipur, the leaders will also "raise the Haryana issue and the functioning of Parliament before her," according to the Congress sources, news agency ANI reported.&nbsp;</p> <p>Earlier on Monday, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge had sought an appointment from President <a title="Droupadi Murmu" href="https://ift.tt/FGhJ24d" data-type="interlinkingkeywords">Droupadi Murmu</a> on behalf of the opposition parties to discuss the Manipur issue, PTI reported.&nbsp;</p> <p>The opposition parties have been calling for an exhaustive debate on the violence in Manipur in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, as well as a statement from the Prime Minister in Parliament.</p> <p>A group of 21 opposition MPs visited the ethnically divided state and briefed INDIA alliance leaders on the situation. The group went to the affected areas and spoke with people residing in relief camps in both the hills and the valley.&nbsp;</p> <p>The Congress chief stated that the MPs who visited Manipur to examine the situation heard heartbreaking stories of agony from the people there.</p> <p>Addressing the media after meeting the Governor, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is part of the visiting delegation, said, "All 21 MPs handed over a memorandum to her. As we spoke with her over the Manipur situation, she expressed her pain and grief."</p> <p>Earlier, PM Modi condemned the viral video of two women purportedly being stripped and paraded in Manipur, vowing that the "culprits involved in this heinous act would not be spared".&nbsp;</p>
