Ukraine Peace Plan 'Unfeasible': Russia's Lavrov Says As He Slams US, Allies Over 'Self-Centered Rules'

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took the stage at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Saturday, delivering a stern critique of the United States and Western nations. Lavrov's address at the UN saw him sharply condemn the actions of the U.S. and its Western allies, as per a report by the Associated Press. He dismissed Kyiv's 10-point peace blueprint as "completely unfeasible" and emphasised that it is "not possible to implement."

Speaking on the matter, Lavrov stated, "It's not realistic, and everybody understands this, but at the same time, they say this is the only basis for negotiations", news agency Reuters reported.

Lavrov also expressed his view that if Kyiv and Western nations persist with this particular stance, the conflict may ultimately find its resolution on the battlefield, raising concerns about the potential for escalated hostilities in the region.

Furthermore, Lavrov spoke about Russia's decision to withdraw from the Black Sea grain initiative. He attributed this move to unfulfilled promises made to Moscow, particularly pertaining to the removal of sanctions on a Russian bank and the restoration of its access to the global SWIFT system. The failure to honor these commitments led Moscow to discontinue its participation in the initiative, impacting trade in the Black Sea region, he said, as per Reuters.

Addressing the latest United Nations (U.N.) proposals aimed at re-establishing an export corridor for Ukrainian agricultural products, Lavrov expressed skepticism, deeming the proposals "simply not realistic."

Lavrov characterised the U.S. and its Western allies as self-interested proponents of a waning international power structure.

In his speech, Lavrov asserted, "The U.S. and its subordinate Western collective are continuing to fuel conflicts which artificially divide humanity into hostile blocks and hamper the achievement of overall aims. They're doing everything they can to prevent the formation of a genuine multipolar world order."

"They are trying to force the world to play according to their own self-centered rules," he added, as quoted by the AP.

Notably, he announced plans to visit Pyongyang next month for further negotiations with his North Korean counterpart.

For the second consecutive year, the General Assembly finds itself convening with no resolution in sight to the Ukrainian war. Despite a three-month-long Ukrainian counteroffensive, progress has been slower than anticipated, resulting in modest territorial gains but no significant breakthroughs, the AP report mentioned.

Subscribe And Follow ABP Live On Telegram: https://ift.tt/dU67ozW>
