Supremacy Of Parliament Not Amendable To Intervention From Judiciary, Executive: VP Dhankhar

<p><strong>New Delhi:</strong> Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday said the supremacy of the Constitution cannot be questioned and it cannot be amended by the intervention from judiciary or the executive, news agency PTI reported. Addressing a Constitution Day event in New Delhi, VP Dhankhar said, &ldquo;Sovereignty of Parliament is synonymous with sovereignty of the nation and it is impregnable. Any incursion into the exclusive domain of Parliament will be a constitutional aberration and antithetical to democratic essence and values.&rdquo;</p> <p>The event marked the anniversary of 1949 when the Constitution was formally adopted by the Constituent Assembly. Prior to 2015, this day was observed as Law Day.</p> <p>The Vice President further said that for the country to grow, the legislature, executive and judiciary must work together and not have a &ldquo;confrontational perception&rdquo;.</p> <p>&ldquo;There are bound to be differences, there are bound to be issues. Issues have to be ironed out. In a country like ours which has to show path to the entire world, there must be convergence of attitude amongst these three institutions in particular. Public posturing or generating perception as a strategy to deal with such differences is best avoided,&rdquo; PTI quoted Vice President Dhankhar as saying.</p> <p>He also suggested that there should be a system where the legislature, executive and the judiciary can have structured interaction so that the people working in these institutions do not complain against each other and they can resolve the issues of the citizens.</p> <p>"The time has come that we must have a mechanism of a structured interaction amongst those at the helm of affairs of such institutions so that issues do not come in the public domain," PTI quoted VP Dhankhar as saying.</p> <p>In a veiled attack on the critics of the government, he said there are some people who engage in the acts of tarnishing and demeaning the three institutions whenever something good happens in the country.</p>
