"You must be allowed to live life as you want, not as somebody else wants," Rahul further stated.
Rahul was addressing a group of students on his ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which resumed from Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi on Monday evening. Rahul came to Meghalaya via Morigaon, Assam, after being denied access to a shrine in Nagaon.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed on Tuesday that he was "prevented" from engaging with students of a private institution in Meghalaya as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra due to "instructions" from the Union Home Minister. The Union minister sent the instruction to the varsity administration through the Assam chief minister's office, he alleged.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said: "I wanted to come to your university and talk to you, understand what you are facing and try and see in my own little way if I could have helped you. The Home Ministry of India called up the CM of Assam and the CM's office called up the leadership of your university and said that Rahul Gandhi must not be allowed to speak to the students of this university."

On Tuesday morning, Gandhi was set to meet separately with students, civil society activists, and party leaders at the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) in Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi district, which borders Assam.
The Congress announced the courses at the private university on Monday afternoon, but they were subsequently rescheduled to a hotel in the Ri Bhoi district when the university withdrew permission.
"It is not important if Rahul Gandhi comes or does not come. What is important is that you are allowed to listen to anybody you want to listen to. This is not only happening in Assam but in every single university, college or school in India," he stated.
Earlier, while addressing a gathering in Meghalaya, Rahul Gandhi slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for callling state government the most corrupt. Rahul said that shortly after making the comment, Shah collaborated with the same administration led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma during the Meghalaya general elections.
Speaking at a gathering at Madan Pahamsyiem mini stadium in Ri-Bhoi district’s capital Nongpoh, Rahul stated: “Meghalaya is not ruled from here, but from Delhi. This is not acceptable. The nation is facing the highest levels of unemployment in the last 40 years. The Home Minister had called Meghalaya govt the most corrupt in the country. Immediately after this, he partnered with the same govt.”
Rahul also noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the Manipur violence.
“It is a matter of great concern that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is silent on the Manipur clash, where hundreds of precious lives were lost, and thousands of people were displaced due to ethnic infighting. The BJP is not serious about solving this issue,” he said.
