IMD Rain Forecast: Delhi, Kerala Brace For More Showers, Alerts Also In THESE States— Read

Weather Update: Heavy rainfall lashed the national capital on Thursday morning, causing waterlogging in several areas. Traffic snarls caused problems for commuters as roads in several areas of Delhi were inundated due to incessant showers.


In the visuals shared by news agency ANI, commuters can be seen stuck on roads due to traffic jams amid heavy rainfall. Waterlogging was witnessed in several areas in Delhi including the Tigri area, Parade Road Underpass, Delhi Cantonment and Dhaula Kuan.

This comes a day after the India Meterological Department (IMD) predicted light to moderate showers in the capital accompanied by thunderstorms during the week.

The temperature in the city is likely to hover around 35 degrees Celsius.

Weather Update: IMD Rain Alert In Kerala. Death Toll Reaches 26 In Gujarat 




Besides Delhi several parts of the country including Kerala and Gujarat are also seeing heavy rainfall. In Kerala, the IMD has predicted that rainfall is likely to intensify in several parts of the state in the coming days. In the weather bulletin issued on Wednesday, the IMD issued a "yellow warning" signalling heavy rainfall in several parts of the state in the coming days.


The IMD issued a "yellow warning" in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargode districts till September 1.


As far as the Gujarat is concerned, the state has been witnessing flood like situation due to heavy rainfall since last four days. Rain-related incidents claimed 19 more lives in coastal state, taking the toll to 26 in three days, news agency PTI reported on Wednesday, citing officials.


Around 17,800 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas as heavy showers lashed parts of the state for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday, officials said.


The deceased include seven persons who went missing after the tractor trolley they were travelling in was swept away while crossing an overflowing causeway near Dhavana village under Halvad taluka of Morbi district on Sunday, a police official said, adding their bodies have been recovered.


 IMD Weather Forecast For Other States




The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states across India in the coming week. According to the weather office, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely in parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Saurashtra.


Heavy showers are also likely in states across northeast. Widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during next 7 days. According to the IMD bulletin, isolated very heavy rainfall is also very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Odisha.
