India On Sustained Growth Path Due To PM Modi's Economic Thinking, Poised For Global Leadership In AI: Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday said that India is poised for a global leadership position in the realm of artificial innovation just like it has proven its mettle in IT services. He also said that the world is looking at India with hope as it now understands Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic thinking.

He made these remarks while speaking to news agency PTI during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The Minister for Electronics and Information Technology said all necessary regulations would be in place for AI while also maintaining a balance with innovation.

"The way India has proved its mettle in IT services, a similar opportunity is there in terms of AI. For that we need to prepare our youth.

"Like we started 5G labs in 100 universities for telecom and the way we equipped 250 universities with latest semiconductor design tools, the same we are starting AI-ready courses in 200 universities to prepare our youth to ensure leadership position for India in the AI space," he explained.

Commenting on India putting up a united face at Davos this time, Vaishnaw said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi had told us clearly that the Indian pavilion this time in Davos should integrate all states...That has sent a very good signal this time for a unified image of the country. Leaders from 5-6 different parties came together on one stage."

The BJP leader said people across the world now get how India could stay on a path of sustained growth while many other countries were struck under debt, the report said.

"People are looking at India with a lot of hope and there is a new confidence about the country because they now understand PM Modi's economic thinking. They now have understood how some rich countries took a different path during the COVID-19 crisis, while India took a different path. Because of PM Modi's economic thinking, India is on a sustained growth path, while western countries have taken a lot of loan on themselves, and the entire world knows this now," he said.

VIDEO | Davos 2025: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw (@AshwiniVaishnaw) says, "People are looking at India with a lot of hope and there is a new confidence about the country because they now understand PM Modi's economic thinking. He said that while there is a need to take necessary safeguards, the opportunities presented by AI cannot be ignored and must be tapped responsibly.

Commenting on the new regulations for AI, Vaishnaw said there must be a balance between regulation and innovation for both of them to move together.

Vaishnaw, who is also the Railways Minister, shared that several countries showed interest in Vande Bharat. He also said that the testing of Vande Bharat Sleeper is almost complete and deployment will begin once the final modifications are done.

"Several countries have shown interest in Vande Bharat...There is excitement for it. It is providing quality services. With the constellation of 4 new types of trains - Vande Bharat Chair Car, Vande Bharat Sleeper, Namo Bharat Train and Amrit Bharat Train, passengers will get good quality services. Production continues," he told news agency ANI in Davos.

"Testing of Vande Bharat Sleeper is almost complete. CRS certificate will be obtained and data from testing will be analysed. The final modifications that have to be made in ICF will be made.
