<p>The United Nationas General Assembly on Monday voted against a United States resolution urging an end to the Ukraine War without mentioning Russia's aggression. </p> <p>The UN General Assembly approved a European-backed Ukrainian resolution demanding Russia immediately withdraw from Ukraine. The US voted with Russia, North Korea, Belarus and 14 other Moscow-friendly countries on the resolution condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine.</p> <p>The resolution marks a setback for the Trump administration in the world body, whose resolutions are not legally binding but are seen as a global consensus. Meanwhile, India abstained from voting on the resolution. India was among the 65 UN Member States that abstained on the resolution. </p> <p>The development comes on the third anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres stressing that the war in Ukraine stands as a “grave threat” not only to the peace and security of Europe but also to the very foundations and core principles of the United Nations. </p> <p>Noting that more than 12,600 civilians have been killed and many more injured in the three years of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Guterres reaffirmed the “urgent need for a just, sustainable and comprehensive peace – one that fully upholds Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, and resolutions of the General Assembly”.</p>
