Man Caught Smoking Bidi Inside Flight Toilet, Arrested At Surat Airport For Risking 70 Lives

<p>A 37-year-old man was apprehended at Surat International Airport in Gujarat on Thursday evening for smoking a 'bidi' inside the toilet of the aircraft. The incident took place on the Surat-Kolkata IndiGo flight at about 5.30 pm when the aircraft was being inspected ahead of take-off.</p> <p>The man identified as Ashok Biswas was arrested by Dumas police after her was handed over by the IndiGo crew and airport security staff for endangering human lives on the flight, according to a report by TOI.</p> <p>An IndiGo security officer lodged a complaint stating that flight 6E-784, operating on the Surat-Jaipur-Kolkata route, was scheduled for departure at 4:35 pm on Thursday. After passengers had boarded, the pilot and technical staff detected some issues, resulting in the aircraft being moved to the airside area for inspection. &nbsp;</p> <p>At around 5:30 pm, flight attendant Vaishnavi Nighot noticed a strong smell of bidi smoke coming from the toilet. She alerted security personnel, who discovered that a passenger seated in 15A, identified as Ashok Biswas, had smoked inside the restroom. The cabin crew also found a half-smoked bidi and a matchbox inside the toilet. &nbsp;</p> <p>Biswas was immediately removed from the flight, and his luggage was searched, revealing a bundle of bidis. The Dumas police were called in, and he was handed over to them. &nbsp;</p> <p>According to a Dumas police officer, Biswas, originally from West Bengal, has been residing in Navsari for 15 years. He was traveling to Nadia district in West Bengal to attend a social function and work at a medical store in Navsari. The officer added that Biswas had concealed the bidi and matchbox within his clothes inside his bag. &nbsp;</p> <p>Biswas was arrested and charged under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering human lives.
