Congress Announces ‘Samvidhan Bachao Rallies’ From April 25 To Push For Caste Census, 50% Quota Cap Removal

<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Congress announced 'Samvidhan Bachao' (Save the Constitution) rallies in all the states across India starting from April 25 to 30. Speaking at a press conference, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that there will be a district-level rally from May 3 to 10 and a rally at the level of Vidhansabha will be held between May 11 and 17. The final phase will involve a door-to-door outreach effort from May 20 to May 30. He also added that new presidents will be appointed by May 31.</p> <p>"Rahul Gandhi ji has launched the &lsquo;Organisation Creation Campaign&rsquo; in Gujarat. The aim of this campaign is to further strengthen our district presidents. Our first step will be to appoint DCC presidents, for which there will be five observers in each district. Additionally, new presidents will be appointed by 31 May. In this regard, it was decided in the meeting that the &lsquo;Organisation Creation Campaign&rsquo; will be organised in different states," he added.</p> <p>"There are three demands regarding social justice. These include caste census, SC-ST and OBC reservation in private educational institutions and removal of 50% limit in reservation. In economic justice, our demand is to provide MSP as per Swaminathan formula, farmer loan waiver and focus on the closed MSMEs in the country," Ramesh further added.</p> <p>Ramesh added that today the constitution of the country is being attacked and that the institutions like ED are being misused.</p> <p>"Justice and law are being made a mockery of. This government is constantly attacking the Congress leadership by misusing the ED. Our leaders will hold a press conference on this issue between 21 and 24 April," Ramesh said.</p> <p>Ramesh accused the BJP of deliberately targeting and weakening the Supreme Court, saying it was only telling the party not to frame laws that went against the basic structure of the Constitution. Lashing out at the Centre, he claimed that people holding constitutional positions, ministers, and BJP MPs were speaking against the Supreme Court in their bid to weaken the institution. The Congress only wants the Supreme Court to function in an independent and neutral manner, Ramesh said.</p> <p>The remarks of Ramesh came after the Congress leader was asked about four-time BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's comment that Parliament and state assemblies should be closed down if the apex court had to make laws.</p> <p>"They (BJP) are busy weakening the Supreme Court. The powers given by the Constitution to the Supreme Court are being sought to be weakened," Ramesh said.</p>
